Quick Tips:

Descriptive Title – when choosing the title for your listing, it is best to add some information beyond the name of your organization. For example, Joe's Library could choose the title Joe's Library Book Donation Guidelines, or Book Donations accepted by Joe's Library.

County - not a required field, but in some instances it may help potential donors find an organization and make a donation.

Donation Guidelines - when filling in this portion of the form, don't be shy. Provide any details that might help donors understand exactly what sort of books you want - and what you can't use.

Address - before you post your address, test it. Go to Google Maps and enter the exact address you plan to enter in our form and make sure it is understood by their system. An incorrect address will lead to an ugly error message in your listing, and that is unlikely to attract donors.

The "Where to Donate Books" portion of this website is a directory of nonprofit organizations all around the United States that accept donations of used books, dvds, cds, and other media. You can even list your organization in this directory if you are only looking for donations of very specific titles. We will soon be adding a feature to the "Where to Donate Books" section that will allow you to list specific books wanted by entering the ISBN, and the rest of the information will be filled in automatically.

Please read the following tutorial carefully for information about how to add your organization to this directory. Any remaining questions can be answered by emailing us via the contact us link at the top or bottom of any page of Happy Dead Trees.

First: 

Use the print icon in the upper right hand corner of this article to print a copy of these instructions.

Second:

 Register as a member of Happy Dead Trees.

Third: 

After registration is complete, log-in to Happy Dead Trees and Click on the Where to Donate Books tab which is below the Book Sales tab on the main menu.

Each portion of the listing form is detailed below. Please let us know if you need more clarification on how to handle any portion of the form. You can ask for clarification by emailing us directly.

Step-by-Step:

Descriptive Title – if you are representing Bob's Library seeking donations for your annual book sale, don't just enter Bob's Library. Enter something like,  "Bob's Library Book Donation Guidelines." Or, if you are only interested in particular titles, enter "Book Titles Wanted/Sought by Bob's Library."

State - a required step, despite the fact that the state name also appears in the address. Entering the state name separately from the address allows us to include it in the brief version of the article, and it appears in the dropdown menu that potential donors will use to find a recipient for their largesse.

County - to make your listing easier to find. Enter the name of the county in the text box and site visitors will be able to search for it.

City - appears in the listing and site visitors can search for particular town or city names.

Type of Organization - a simple drop-down list, just click on the best available choice. (If you think we should add another choice, email to let us know.

Organization Name - we're going to trust you to figure this one out for yourself.

Donation Guidelines - please be sure to emphasize the types of books you don't want. Give as many details as you think potential donors will need to understand what kind of books you want.

Address - seems self-explanatory, but don't forget to test the address before you enter it here. We generate a map from Google Maps, and you should visit Google Maps to test the address prior to entering it here. An unrecognized address will result in an ugly error on your listing page, and not do much to attract potential donors.

Website - your website address. If you don't have a website, just leave this blank.

Contact Email - this is the spot to add an email address where interested people can contact you for more details. The email address is obscured so people actually have to click on the link before they can see the address.
