How to View and Correct Your Information
We have no interest in invading your privacy. This notice is to inform you of the fact that we have no intention of sharing your information with anyone else except as specifically authorized by you. We provide this notice on just about every page of the site, and definitely on every page where you are asked for the tiny bit of personal information that we actually do request.
We require the following information when you register; first name, email address, user category, and the country you live in – hardly an intrusive list, eh? In other areas of the site you can volunteer enormous amounts of information about yourself. What you provide in those areas is entirely up to you, and what happens to the extra information is your sole responsibility.
We use the information you give us to furnish you with a unique User Name and Password on our site. The user name is chosen and created by you and it is your identity on Happy Dead Trees. It is entirely your responsibility to keep your password safe, and is in no way our responsibility. Use of the non-required information you provide is also your responsibility. When you choose to add extra information in your profile some of it may be set to private, but it is still on the Internet, and still can be accessed. Do not share anything you wouldn't want the neighbors to know about.
We make what we consider to be a reasonable effort to secure the core information you provide on this site, but your use of this site is much like life itself – it does not come with any guarantees.
No one under the age of 13 is permitted to register on this site. We are very serious about protecting the privacy of children, particularly children under the age of 13. You can see the applicable United States of America law here. Children under the age of 13 may enter certain writing contests on Happy Dead Trees, but they must do so through an account set up by an adult. Site users are strongly encouraged to report cases of children sharing personally identifiable information on this site. Reports may be made via the Report a Problem link which is available to all members of Happy Dead Trees in the Members Menu. We even offer a reward of user points to people who make substantiated reports of children providing inappropriate information.
