Edgar Allan Poe

January 19, 1809 to October 7, 1849

Born in Boston, Massachusetts & Died in Baltimore, Maryland

One of the great original voices in American literature, Poe is now more talked about and quoted than read, but he is still widely read and deservedly so.

Quote

"In reading some books we occupy ourselves chiefly with the thoughts of the author; in perusing others, exclusively with our own."

Most of Poe's works were short stories or poems which you can find in various collections at just about any decent library or bookstore. The Library of America collection is excellent. Or, you can read any of his writing at no charge from Project Gutenberg.

"A gun is so clean, so impersonal. It separates you, just a bit, from the event."
